The kitchen at the Pine Ridge Reconciliation Center is relatively well stocked with cookware and utensils for meal prep. There is a grocery store across the street, Buche, with a good selection of groceries. We encourage you to purchase your ingredients locally, when possible. This is another way to support the Pine Ridge community.
Menu planning is an important part of having a good experience during your retreat so that you can focus on the people of Pine Ridge. Here are some tips and pointers that you might find helpful:
Making crockpot meals is a great way to save time and help keep the building cool. You can prep in the morning and come back to the center in the evening and dinner will be ready.
Cook meat ahead of time at home and freeze it, this way it is ready for the crockpot with less prep at Pine Ridge.
Plan out easily packable lunches in case you are eating on the go.
Teams are expected to gather as a community for all meals. The group is responsible for the preparation of all meals eaten on-site unless otherwise arranged. Since we are providing meals for the homeless community you have the option of eating what we prepare for the community. Our cooks are happy to work with you to help make your meals.
The center has many staple items already in our fridge and cupboards. Please use what is already open before opening a new bottle or jar! (ex: ketchup, mustard, Miracle Whip, butter, salad dressings, etc)
The kitchen is available for meal prep. Please keep the following in mind:
Remember to wash and re-shelve cookware and dishware in its proper place.
Report any broken or non-functioning items.
Wipe down all counter and cooking surfaces.
Use the designated cabinet to store your food items.
